What’s the Scoop on Our 2023 Magic Quadrant Placement?

Apprentice is honored to be recognized in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

We have been acknowledged in this report for our Tempo Manufacturing Cloud.

Tempo is built so multiple teams can use one unified platform across every stage of the drug supply chain. With shared capabilities, Tempo lets teams operate without needing to stop for data, knowledge, or process transfer between siloed systems.

“We are building our Tempo Manufacturing Cloud to go beyond the traditional boundaries of MES and deliver a fresh perspective on how technology can accelerate the drug product lifecycle. Our customers are recognizing that traditional software vendors can’t innovate fast enough to keep up with the rapid change happening in life sciences.”

What’s the Gartner Magic Quadrant?

Magic Quadrant reports are a culmination of rigorous, fact-based research in specific markets, providing a wide-angle view of the relative positions of the providers in markets where growth is high and provider differentiation is distinct.

Providers are positioned into four Quadrants:

  1. Leaders Quadrant
  2. Challengers Quadrant
  3. Visionaries Quadrant
  4. Niche Players Quadrant

What’s a Gartner Visionary?

Apprentice has been recognized as a Visionary in this Magic Quadrant. So, what does that mean?

As Gartner explains, “Visionaries align with Gartner’s view of how a market will evolve, but their ability to deliver against that vision is less proven. In growing markets, this status is typical. In more mature markets, it may reflect a competitive strategy for a smaller vendor — such as selling an innovation ahead of mainstream demand — or a larger vendor trying to break out of a rut or differentiate itself.

For vendors and customers, Visionaries fall into the higher-risk-higher-reward category. They often introduce new technology, services, or business models, and they may need to build financial strength, service and support, and sales and distribution channels.

Whether Visionaries become Challengers or Leaders may depend on if customers accept the new technology or the vendors can develop partnerships that complement their strengths. Visionaries are sometimes attractive acquisition targets for Leaders or Challengers.”

Key characteristics of a Magic Quadrant Visionary, according to Gartner:

  • A coherent, compelling, and innovative strategy that seeks to deliver a robust and vibrant offering to the market.
  • A thought leader in one or more MES solution dimensions that tends to be on the leading edge of emerging concepts.
  • A yet undemonstrated ability to handle a broad range of complex user requirements.
  • Execution gaps or deficiencies.
  • Innovation in MES products and services, go-to-market, vertical or deployment strategies.

This year, Gartner has recognized us for our strengths and cautions.

Our platform is built on a quality management system, robust validation, and a proven audit process — all specifically designed to facilitate compliance.

‘’Gartner defines manufacturing execution systems (MES) as a specialist class of production-oriented software that manages, monitors and synchronizes the execution of real-time physical processes involved in transforming raw materials into intermediate and/or finished goods. These systems coordinate this execution of work orders with production scheduling and enterprise-level systems like ERP and product life cycle management (PLM). MES applications also provide feedback on process performance, and support component and material-level traceability, genealogy and integration with process history, where required.’’

  • Adherent to requirements for ongoing validation. We can provide all IQ and OQ documents, while our 3rd party validation provider can partner on developing PQ to ensure easy validation of the system.

Where Are We Headed Next?

Since this assessment has been completed, our company has released a new product, CMN, while raising an additional $65 million in funding led by ICONIQ growth to sustain our incredibly rapid pace of innovation. CMN knits together the disparate teams and sites across internal and external manufacturing to manage and accelerate production from one centralized platform.
